A total of 100,000 fresh rainbow trout fingerings will be distributed to 12 major rivers of Enga Province starting this week.
A lifetime sustainable initiative for the people of Enga fully funded by the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) and successfully implemented by Wabag District Development Authority (WDDA) Chairman, Fisheries and Marine Resource Minister and first term Wabag/Maramuni MP Dr Lino Tom.
The pilot project has been fully funded by NFA at a cost of K100,000 which will see NFA technical officers visiting all the major 12 rivers of Enga Province in a chopper and dropping the fingerings evenly to all selected rivers.
“This is a sustainable project. We can make good money by selling fresh rainbow trout to commercial and private customers alike as this is a lifetime and sustainable impact project if we take full ownership of our rivers, creeks, streams, brooks and little waterways and take good care and stock of the 100,000 fingerlings that will be distributed evenly,” Minister Lino stressed.
The surgeon cum politician explained that the 100,000 figerlings multiplying by reproduction to millions and millions of fresh rainbow trout every year!
“This is fresh fish and free finance in our rivers and waterways!” concluded Minister Lino.
