The Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Council has elected a new board headed by James Gore following a Special General Meeting held on September 30 in Port Moresby.

The newly-elected board members are: President – James P. Gore; Vice President – Miku Agarobe; Treasurer – Kidu G. Morea; Secretary – Monica Kaupa;  New Guinea Islands Regional Representative – Linda Narakou; Highlands Regional Representative – Koren Maso; Southern Regional Representative – Clark Piokole; and Momase Regional Representative – Terry Lelemito’e.

Two young male and female entrepreneurs have been added to the new board as part of the MSME Council’s strategy to develop future leaders.

The new board highlighted its priorities, which included strengthening the council’s institutional capacity, deepening engagement with members, and maintaining a strong voice for all MSMEs in PNG.

More than 60 people attended the meeting while others joined virtually from across Papua New Guinea and abroad, demonstrating the broad support and engagement of the MSME community.

The MSME Council said: “The impressive turnout is a testament to the commitment and passion of our members and supporters, who recognize the crucial role that the MSME Council plays in advancing the interests of micro, small, and medium enterprises. The combination of in-person and virtual participation ensured that voices from all regions, including remote and international stakeholders, were included in the proceedings. This level of involvement not only highlights the Council’s strong network but also reflects the growing momentum behind the MSME movement in PNG.

“The Board extends its deepest gratitude and sincere appreciation to all those who have guided and led the MSME Council since its inception. We offer special recognition to President Desmond Yaninen, Founding Treasurer Naime O’ome, Founding Secretary Fay Zina Lalo, and each individual who has contributed time, energy, and expertise to the Council’s ongoing growth and notable achievements throughout the years. Their unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, and steadfast commitment have collectively laid a resilient and enduring foundation for both the organization itself and for the flourishing MSME Sector across Papua New Guinea.”

Since its establishment, the MSME Council has played a vital role in advocating for micro, small, and medium enterprises, both formal and informal. The Council has championed important policy reforms, provided a platform for member voices, and supported the growth of MSMEs across the country. As we look forward, it is important to realign our activities with the Founding Vision and continue building on these successes.
