Port Moresby Nature Park celebrated the “Reverse the Red Day” to protect and conserve Papua New Guinea’s biodiversity and its endangered species.

Nature Park CEO John Paul Houston said: “Reverse the Red Day is all about protecting the biodiversity of Papua New Guinea and making sure that the species who are  in trouble are worked with and have a plan to make them less endangered.”

The program  brought together, students, the staff at Nature park  and conservation organizations such as the Piku Biodiversity Network, ENB sea keepers, RSPCA PNG, Wildlife conservation society, with a shared goal to protect and stop any species that is dropping in number very quickly  or close to extinction and help them to recover.

“This is all about reconnecting the people of PNG and keeping the connection of the people of PNG with what you already know about sustainability and conservation. It’s you as Papua New Guineans who really know how to be sustainable and look after the species and forests that you have, the seas that you have, and it’s about learning from your past to protect your future,” Mr Houston said.

The participants were encouraged to learn about the International Union of Conservation of Nature barometer on endangered species..

The groups that participated pledged to protect the endangered species and collaborate on programs to conserve PNG’s biodiversity.
