Nawaeb MP empowers youths to find true place in development

NAWAEB MP Hon Theo Pelgen has actively come out to work with the youth of his district to empower and realize their true place in development.

During the opening of the UN Women coordinated Training Workshop in Lae earlier this this, Pelgen whilst emphasizing the reality of challenges faced by youth today, shared his experience of being a reformed youth and seeing the importance contributing back into the society.

“I was following youth around Lae City during my childhood days and saw that if I had gone into negative practices, I would not be successful in business and now politics today.”

“Youth must take good advice from experienced elders and learn to embrace these positive challenges in life, if they want to be successful later in life.”

Those youths from Nawaeb District that attended the workshop will themselves go back into the community and be advocates of change within their respective dwellings.

They by doing so will take charge of the activities that all youth in their community and villages will participate in for change.

The youth leaders that attended the conference and workshop were from Wain, Erap, Labuta, Ahi Urban and Nabak.

Pelgen said he has already spoken with the Prime Minister Hon James Marape and Community Development Minister Hon Jason Peter, to support Nawaeb to establish a million kina Youth Conference Centre at Boana.

“The center will accommodate all youth to be engaged in dances, drama, music, arts and theater and cultural activities.”

“I want to also build a mini sports stadium that will engage youth in all sporting activities.”

He said he believed that by establishing the venues for youth to engage and participate actively, issues such as lawlessness and unproductiveness will reduce in the district.

“We have to provide an avenue for the youth to find their place in development and be productive citizens.”

“Therefore I will submit to the respective Ministers to counter fund the two projects earmarked to capture meaningful youth activities.”

Pelgen reemphasized that the Youth are very crucial group that are captured as well in the Nawaeb District Five (5) Year Development Plan.
