A clinical services plan for the new provincial specialist hospital in the National Capital District has been presented to NCD Governor Powes Parkop.

The plan was presented by NCD Provincial Health Authority’s chief executive officer Dr Robin Oge and covers all necessary clinical services and support services that will be provided at the new hospital.

The proposed level 5 provincial specialist hospital is to be built at Tete in the Port Moresby North West District.

Governor Parkop said all future plans for the construction and expansion of other health facilities in the NCD must meet the required standards.

NCDPHA Chairman Daniel Waswas said the plan would fulfill the vision of NCD Commission to deliver effective health services in the nation’s capital.

He acknowledged the support from the Governor and the District Development Authorities in NCD.

Dr Oge said the proposed state-of-the-art hospital would will cater for secondary and tertiary specialist health care services.

He added that the hospital would serve as crucial referral hub by receiving patients from level 2, 3 and 4 health facilities in NCD, Central and Gulf provinces.

“The most complex and sub-specialty cases will be referred to Port Moresby General Hospital, allowing it to carry out its role as the National Tertiary Referral Hospital.

“This will reduce the burden of PMGH because it is overwhelmed with patients seeking primarily health care services,” Dr Oge said.

He said the board and management of NCDPHA was working towards improving the health service delivery in the NCD through improving health facility infrastructure and collaboration with NCD Commission and the three District Development Authorities.
