New police post for Kenabot opened in East New Britain

A NEW police post opened last Friday at Kokopo town’s prime residential area, Kenabot which will deal with escalating law and order problems.

There has been a marked increase in the number of breaking, entering and stealing in the Kenabot area in the past years.

Also population in the area has increased, with more houses being built, shops opened and people moving in.

The new police post built at a cost of K283, 000 and located at Kenabot stage 2 is a proactive approach to deter escalation of criminal activities.

Police will not only be policing Kenabot but the surrounding villages of Ulagunan, Bitapabeke, Raniolo and other surrounding wards and communities.

Police have assured that the post will be manned 24 hours.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Superintendent Paul Kamui also confirmed that East New Britain will soon implement the much talked about police toll free number service.

Mr Kamuai said police are working closely with NICTA to have a toll free in the province.

Senior Provincial Magistrate, Samuel Lavutul called on police personal in the province to show commitment and professionalism at all times and in their line of duty.

Mr Lavutul said young police men and women must think bigger so they are able to excel in their career rather than being stuck in the lower ranks.

He said it is evident that the Kokopo Police Station is not manned during night time and this must not be the case for the newly opened post at Kenabot where the population is increasing and in need of policing services.

Mr Lavutul said police must be mindful and considerate of the rights of detainees by formally arresting and charging them within the duration of 48 hours.
