THE National Capital District Provincial Health Authority has opened a new 24-hour clinic at Six Mile to relieve the Port Moresby General Hospital.
PMGH deputy director of medical services Dr Henao Asa said: “PomGen alone is the only 24hrs service that provide for the city of almost one million, it is very stressful at times for our nurses and doctors that works at the emergency section.
He added that PMGH would be relieved of half its emergency services workload by the Six Mile Clinic.
“We hope that we can provide more of the specialist services not only to 6mile but we are hoping that we can bring all the way to Gerehu,” Dr Asa said.
NCDPHA chief executive officer Dr Robin Oge said the Six Mile Clinic was the first facility outside of Gerehu Hospital to be in operational on a 24-hour basis.
“Six Mile Clinic performs a significant contribution in reducing patient load at PomGen,” Dr Oge said.
“There will be a K5 million TB (tuberculosis) facility, which will be a double story ward with 20 beds for patients.
“We want to provide these services to the people of Moresby North-East and the entire NCD to improve their health.
“As the CEO and under my management, I would like to see it happening. I will ensure that all these developments happen under the short space of time we have because we want to improve the health indicators.”
