Nipa Kutubu MP commends students

MEMBER for Nipa Kutubu and Minister for Defence and National Emergency Services Dr Billy Joseph commended and praised students in his district who will be graduating in the one week long graduation ceremony of the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) this week.

“On behalf of many of the parents, guardians and family members of the 13 students from Nipa Kutubu who will be graduating this week at UPNG; many who would not make it to see them graduate; I spent an hour with them tonight to appreciate them for all their hard work and dedication which resulted in them graduating this year.”

“I am proud of their achievements and I thank their parents and guardians who assisted them in their school journey,” said the local MP for Nipa Kutubu Dr. Billy Joseph.

He encouraged the graduands that graduating is not the end of the journey but the beginning of another phase of their lives.

He cautioned them to not lose focus and get carried away in the moment as last minute accidents and injuries can happen that can be fatal as well.

Amomgst the 13 that are graduating, two (2) of them are females.

Sepkolin Walne who will be graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Journalism and Public Relations whilst Nerolyn Kumbio will be graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting.

He urged parents in his district to help their children, especially girls to be educated and not to underestimate themselves.

“There is a lot of gender imbalance in this space for Nipa Kutubu so our girls must be courageous and never underestimate themselves.”

“Nipa Kutubu girls can be doctors, lawyers, pilots etc. It is up to them to step up and be counted and as parents we must also play our part in helping them where necessary,” he said.
