NATIONAL St John Ambulance Council proudly received a new ambulance this week. Thanks to NWTL group for the Green Angel Appeal 2024 charity efforts that successfully raised enough funds to acquire the ambulance.
The Green Angel Appeal, an initiative by PNG Namba Wan Trophy Limited (NWTL) Group last year was aimed at raising funds to support National St John Ambulance (NStJA). Running from June 24 to December 31, the appeal successfully raised nearly K300,000 (K273,163.00).

Generous contributions came from NWTL Group, Coca-Cola Papua New Guinea, ANZ Bank (PNG) Limited, Kina Bank, Constantinou Group of Companies, Humidity Pty Ltd, SBS Electrical Limited, and members of the community. The funds were used to acquire an additional ambulance for the National Capital District.
Matt Cannon, Chief Executive of NStJA, expressed profound appreciation for NWTL Group’s supporting and initiating the Green Angel Appeal 2024 appeal and the companies and members of the communities that donated towards the appeal emphasizing the critical timing of the support. The ambulance service frequently encounters issues where all available units are engaged in other emergencies, resulting in delays for individuals urgently requiring medical attention, due to shortage of vehicles.
“People rely on the National St John Ambulance Green Angels for emergency situations. Every day, they bring order to chaos, stabilizing casualties and transporting them to hospitals,” Cannon stated. Last year, over 35,000 Papua New Guineans called for help, each call a life at stake, a boy after a snakebite, a mother in labour, an elder struggling to breathe. Every year, the Green Angel’s workload increases as more people gain access to this vital services. Thanks to the Green Angel Appeal, we now have an additional ambulance serving the National Capital District and parts Central Province, ensuring continued access to lifesaving care.”
The National St John Ambulance is a Papua New Guinean state entity that provides the emergency ambulance service. We are grateful for the government funding and support, but we still function as a charity needing to generate approximately 30% of our operating revenue to fund our lifesaving ambulance service.”
Amy Tomlinson, NWTL Group General Manager Retail, expressed her sincere gratitude for the success of the Green Angel Appeal reinforcing NWTL Group’s commitment to supporting NStJA.
“The NWTL Group is honoured to be a key partner in this critical initiative,” said Tomlinson. “The National St John Ambulance Service plays a vital role in providing Papua New Guineans with timely access to emergency medical care when they need it most. We deeply appreciate their lifesaving efforts and commend the dedication of their team. We also
extend our gratitude to the generous companies and individuals who contributed last year, making it possible for NStJA to acquire a new ambulance.”
The launch of this ambulance marks a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between NStJA and NWTL Group, Coca-Cola Papua New Guinea Bank (PNG) Limited, Kina Bank, Constantinou Group of Companies, Humidity Pty Ltd, SBS Electrical Limited that highlights the importance of corporate and community collaboration in delivering essential healthcare services.
The Green Angel Appeal continues to seek support from individuals and businesses alike, encouraging them to contribute to a cause that directly impacts lives across Papua New Guinea.
