IN an emotional speech yesterday at the Funeral General Service for late Robert Stuart Tatauro, General Secretary for Oil Palm Industry Corporation (OPIC) Kepson Pupita described his death as a great loss for the Oil Palm Industry.

Mr. Pupita said late Robert Tatauro dedicated his whole life working passionately for OPIC.

He said late Tatauro started off as an Extension Officer in oil producing provinces, then to senior extension officer, divisional manager and ultimately as the Chairman for OPIC.

The Secretary General highlighted that under the leadership of late Mr Tatauro, OPIC has seen major improvement in the last 5 years.

“Under late Mr Tatauro’s chairmanship OPIC had successfully drafted new legislation and policies that will drive the Oil Palm Industry forward.

“OPIC hosted the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) recently where series exchanges of dialogues with PNG Government on how best to advance the growth of Oil Palm Industry by working together.”

The General Secretary described late Tatauro as dedicated hard-working man and thanked his family for standing beside him during his tenure with OPIC.

“He will be remembered as one of a great man, father, grandfather, and brother,” said Pupita.

Mr Pupita also highlighted that in his memory, and the great things he has done for OPIC, one of the board rooms in OPIC’s headquarters in Port Moresby will be named after him.

Late Tatauro is survived by his wife and children aged 30, 28, and 25.

The casket of late Tatauro departs for Milne Bay today where the OPIC team will officially hand over the body to his people for burial.
