THE Opposition has highlighted their role as representatives of those who disagree with the current management of the country.
They stressed the importance of providing a voice for the people in the House.
All of these were presented by the Governor for East Sepik, Hon. Allan Bird.
Bird commended the treasurer for presenting another record-breaking budget of K28.357 billion, marking the sixth consecutive record budget.
“The treasurer has the hardest job in PNG given that daily payment from Government MPs can’t be easy to deal with. This is also the first time; Treasurer has not brought a Supplementary Budget to Parliament,” Bird acknowledged the treasurer.
The Treasurer and his team were also recognized for their achievement in raising a significant amount of money through taxes, loans, and quantitative easing.
This has resulted in a total revenue of K145 billion from 2020 to 2025, surpassing the combined revenue of the last two governments.
The Opposition praised the Treasurer for effectively managing the budget amidst a challenging environment.
Overall, the Opposition commended the Treasurer for his diligence and dedication in raising funds for the government, despite the pressures of balancing the budget and ensuring responsible spending by other ministers
