PAPUA New Guinea will observe its 44th Remembrance Day tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd July, to honour the country’s fallen soldiers and servicemen who gave their lives in past wars and peacekeeping missions.

The national event will be observed across the country, with the main commemoration ceremony to be held at the Ela Beach Remembrance Park in Port Moresby where national leaders, members of the disciplined forces, foreign dignitaries, and members of the public are expected to gather for the annual wreath-laying ceremony.

Remembrance Day is a significant national event, paying tribute to Papua New Guinean soldiers who served during World War II, the Bougainville Crisis, and other regional missions. It serves as a time of reflection and national unity.

These courageous individuals stood in defence of peace, freedom, and the sovereignty of our nation.

This year’s event also comes in the lead-up to PNG’s 50th Independence anniversary, reinforcing the values of peace, sacrifice, and patriotism that the fallen heroes stood for.

Citizens are encouraged join the commemoration service and reflect on the sacrifices made for the freedoms enjoyed today.
