76 of Papua New Guinea’s top young talents were farewelled by Prime Minister Hon. James Marape as they prepare to embark on a life-changing journey to the USA this week. These exceptional students, who excelled in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) during their Grade 12 year at the six national schools of excellence—Sogeri, Aiyura, Kerevat, Passam, Wawin, and Port Moresby—will pursue advanced studies in fields such as aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, petroleum engineering, and many more.
Just last month, another group of STEM students embarked on their educational journey to India, with a third batch set to head to China in September.
This initiative, spearheaded by Prime Minister Marape, has already seen significant success, with 43 outstanding students from the 2022 STEM programme securing placements in 2023 at US universities through PNG Government-funded scholarships.
The government’s commitment to advancing education and creating international opportunities for PNG’s talented youth continues to shine through this transformative program.
