THE National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) and the Youth Resource Week (YRW) forged a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work collectively and create meaningful pathways for unemployed youths in the country.
The parties signed the MoU on the 6th of February, following Prime Minister James Marape’s insightful vision for collaboration among government agencies, private sector partners, and community stakeholders.
PM Marape shared this vision during his address at Youth Resource Week at Sir John Guise Stadium on January 10th 2025.
The intend of the partnership is to mobilize out of school youths, have them registered and guide them to various self sustainability pathways available both in government and private sectors.
The Marape-Rosso Government has made substantial investment in the youth space; however, the connectivity is scratchy, making it often difficult for youths to tap in.
This partnership is tailored to address the connectivity issue where youths need to tap into; SME, FODE, labor mobility, skills accreditation, road works, agriculture, etc, which are government interventions.
The partnership becomes the catchment basket that captures the unfortunate youths and assist in linking them up.
The MoU signing marks a significant milestone leading up to the official launch of Youth Resource Week, set for March 24th at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
The NYDA is dedicated to identifying opportunities and creating referral pathways that directly address the urgent challenges facing school dropouts and unemployed youths.
The MoA was signed by Mr John Pora of PNG YRW, and the Director General of NYDA, Mr Joe Itaki, in the presence of the Minister for Community Development youth & Religion, Hon. Jason Peter.
Department Secretary Jerry Ubase and various youth stakeholders were also there to witness the signing ceremony.
Similar partnership is expected with other stakeholders when a sector strategy developed by NYDA and its sector agencies is launched this month.
This will enhance meaningful participation by all stakeholders in the empowerment of youth in the country.
