Prime Minister James Marape has received the Papua New Guinea Christian Leaders’ HIV strategy plan for 2026-2030 work summary, which aims to reduce HIV transmission in the country.
The strategy plan enables the heads of churches to provide spiritual leadership and guidance in assessing STI and HIV facilities nationwide.
Chairman of PNG Christian Leaders Alliance on HIV/AIDS, Sir John Cardinal Ribat, emphasises the strategy plan.
“The strategy will provide spiritual leadership through conducting workshops to address moral and Christian values education within the church school institutions, seminaries and also provide spiritual leadership in establishing programs that focus on addressing poverty and unemployment in PNG.
“By 2030, school students and seminarians graduate with knowledge on the importance of moral and Christian values to enable them to make wise choices and decisions and impart the knowledge to others,” Cardinal Ribat said.
Prime Minister Marape assured the church leaders that the government would fully support the plan.
“My government recognised churches as an important central partner in the country.
“I bring to the table National Government support in the Health ministry and department to our National AIDS council for their continuous work in partnership.
“I come here to bring full government support to the work that churches want to do in partnership with the AIDS council,” PM Marape said.
