PRIME Minister James Marape is scheduled to head to Davos, Switzerland, today (Sunday) to attend the World Economic Forum in the coming days.
Speaking ahead of his trip, he pointed out that the forum is focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its role and power in driving the economy forward.
“I have been invited to have our contributions at this year’s World Economic Forum meeting,” PM Marape said.
“This meeting is not an ordinary meeting as it is based on exclusive invitation to business leaders as well as leaders of selected economic relevant in foreign countries in the world,” the Prime Minister outlined at his media briefing on Friday after returning from Palau.
PM Marape was not able to attend the previous invite given to him last year (2024) and so he has accepted the second invitation.
The World Economic Forum meeting will also see the Prime Minister meeting top world investors, and engaging with them for important conversations for the country’s economy and Pacific geo-politics.
“If some of you care to see in my pattern of visits, they have strategic economic rationale behind the choice of visits.
“And if you look at the last six years of visit you will see what has happen from those visits,” PM explained.
“PNG needs to be on par with global trade that is happening because our country grows at the back of trade and investment.”
The Prime Minister is counting on such gatherings as opportunity to source in appropriate partnerships at business and bilateral relations levels.
Meanwhile, PM Marape is also set to launch the 50th Anniversary Independence celebration programs on the 30th January, along with Governor Powes Parkop and Minister Justin Tkatchenko at the Parliament House ahead of this year’s Golden Jubilee.
Marape urged all provinces to tune-in, as it is important for everyone to know where they are participating during the Independence celebrations.
“I want the country to prepare for the 50th anniversary. Every now and then it happens once in someone’s life time,”
