PM welcomes Nomane’s court challenge

PRIME Minister James Marape has welcomed the court challenge by Deputy Opposition Leader, Hon. James Nomane.

Last week, Mr. Nomane announced that he had re-filed the section 18 Supreme Court reference, seeking orders from the court to allow parliament reconvene and make exception for the vote-of-no confidence against the Prime Minister.

In the same Supreme Court Reference, the Deputy Opposition Leader was also seeking orders from the court to restrain parliament from dealing with the nefarious proposed bill to amend Section 145 of the Constitution.

“The actions of the Attorney General in proposing such a restrictive law are shameful and highly questionable, because it seeks a third grace period to protect the Prime Minister against a Vote of no confidence,” said Mr. Nomane.

“Every other member of parliament must rally in support of this and end tyranny, end the power grab, and save Papua New Guineans,” he stated.

In response, PM Marape in a statement on Monday welcomed the court challenge stating the Deputy Opposition Leader has his right, and it’s a democratic process that everyone is entitled to go to court.

Despite the court challenge, the Prime Minister remained committed to carrying out his duty as he has been through such court cases throughout his term as the Prime Minister.

“On record now, I have won five of this sort of court case since 2019, and I am not worried about this court case.

“What I am worried about is my public servants and ministers not working,” PM remarked.

Meanwhile, PM Marape has assured the people of Mulitaka in Enga Province that a Restoration Authority for Mulitaka have been established to coordinate all work of restoration and ensure all people evacuate to safer zones.

He said they noted indications of landslip taking place and might affect the families down the slope area towards the river.

“So, we want to relocate the entire people into a place beside the High school there, which will require proper land acquisition and we a looking to model this to a model that we can use for Pogera resettlement as part of the new Pogera Development,” PM Marape said.

He appealed to the people to work together with the Authority on ground and allow for road construction to ahead.
