PNG Hunters Secure Home Victory Against Ipswich Jets

THE head coach of the PNG Hunters expressed his satisfaction with his team’s 40-28 home victory over Ipswich Jets last weekend. This win marked coach Stanley Tepend’s second home win since taking over as head coach for this season. Tepend stated that the win was a good way to start, and it was pleasing to get the win on home soil as they continue to push for the 2023 Hostplus season campaign.

Tepend also commented that it was good to see the team working together, and he was especially pleased to see Morea Morea returning from training with Dolphins NRL and making an impact on the team. He acknowledged that they still have a lot of work to do but praised the team’s effort in the game.

The coach identified that there were a few things they needed to manage along the way and talked about working on their finishing in the upcoming week. He emphasized that the coaching staff was doing everything possible off the field, but it was up to the players to execute when they were playing, including being disciplined to avoid unnecessary penalties and possible suspensions.

The Hunters captain, Ila Alu, also added that the win was a good boost for the team, and he was happy with how everyone contributed where needed. The team’s victory puts them in ninth place on the 2023 Hostplus point ladder, nine points behind Northern Pride with ten points. The Central Capras and Burleigh Bears share 14 points at the top of the ladder, while South Logan Magpies, Falcons, and Tweed Seagull share 12 points respectively.

The PNG Hunters will play against the Townsville Blackhawks on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Jack Manski Oval, Townsville, at 6:30 pm.
