A Papua New Guinean living and working illegally in Indonesia died of unknown medical reasons in Jayapura District, Papua Province,Jayapura based PNG Consular General Geoffrey Wiri says.
“Late John Loki 32 from Laitre village Vanimo District , West Sepik Province have been illegally working in Jayapura and illegally living with his Indonesian friends for a long time without been detected by Indonesian Immigration officers. He was taken to Sentani hospital after becoming sick and died there last week. My office became aware of him when someone informed us of his passing and notified us that he was a PNG citizen. So we just helped with the purchasing of the casket and repatriating the casket to the PNG-Indonesian border. From there his relatives took the casket to his village for burial”.
Mr Wiri said they cant get his post modem report as the deceased was illegally living in Jayapura. Im appealing to PNG citizens to enter Jayapura legally so we can assist you. When you enter illegally and get into problems, then we will find it hard to help you”.
Meanwhile three PNG citizens are now in Indonesian Police custody after been arrested for selling marijuana in Jayapura District.
Papua Province, Papua Police Narcotics Research Directorate Captain Agus Kuswanto explained in a media statement that from Public Information the three male PNG citizens used cars to carry out transactions for the sale and purchase of cannabis-type narcotics in North Jayapura District.
Following up on this information, Members of the Papua Police Narcotics Investigation Unit went there and conducted an investigation.
“The members saw the car used by the suspects. Members immediately stopped the car and arrested and examined the three suspects, and after conducting an inspection, they found three 10 kg bags and two 5 kg bags packed with cannabis narcotics,”
Mr Agus continued, after securing the suspects they brought them along with evidence to the office of the Papua Police Narcotics Investigation Directorate for further questioning.
“From the results of interrogation, the suspect admitted that there was still evidence of other types of cannabis narcotics which were kept in a suspect’s house,”
Again Mr Agus added, from the results of the interrogation the members of the Papua Police Narcotics Investigation team went to the suspects house.
“After the members arrived at home and conducted a search, there were cannabis narcotics stored in the room in a bag and two cartons of the cannabis narcotics,”
The three suspects are now in custody awaiting trial before an Indonesian court.
