Korean Ambassador to PNG Jongho Choi has met with Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkatchenko ahead of preparations for the 6th South Korea-Pacific Island Counties Minister’s meeting in Seoul, South Korea.
Mr Tkatchenko said their conversation included details around a framework agreement for grant aid that I will sign with my South Korean counterpart, His Excellency Cho Hyun on the margins of the South Korea and Pacific Island Countries Foreign Minister’s meeting.
“Ambassador Jongho and I further discussed our commitment to ensuring the reestablishment of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) office in Port Moresby. Work has already commenced towards the opening of the KOICA office with its representative already in town.”
Mr Tkatchenko said the re-establishment of the office early next year meant added avenues for trade and economic links with South Korea, as well as opportune aid funding support that PNG could utilize for infrastructure, health, education, and training.
“Ambassador Jongho confirmed that the reciprocal visa waver agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders is pending ratification from Parliament,” he said.
“His Excellency also confirmed an official visit by South Korean congressmen to the country at the end of the year.
“South Korea is an important partner and friend, and we will endeavor to ensure stronger working relations into the future.”
