WITH eight months left before the 2022 National General Election, the acting Electoral Commissioner, Simon Sinai has announced that the Electoral Commission will need a total of K70 million alone for the enrolment exercise to begin with.
The enrollment exercise will also include the biometric voting which is expected to begin in the 2022 National General Election.
Commissioner Sinai said with the proposed budget of K462,000 million to run the 2022 National Election, a total of K70 million will be needed for the enrollment exercise.
He said that plans are already underway for the 331 LLGs and 89 electorates across the country. However, the Commission is yet to receive funding from the national government.
Commissioner Sinai added that eight months is enough for the Electoral Commission to begin preparations for the common roll update before 2022 National General Election.
“I got all proposals on the ground, the figures that drawn out are from the strategic plan and operation plan.
“We as a Commission, we are ready with all the operation plans, we are just waiting for the funding to begin.
“For security wise, the Electoral Commission is already in negotiation with the Police and that plans are already in place.
“When the funding is made available, we will start with the electoral roll verification and then go into training and polling,” Mr Sinai said.
Meanwhile, the issue of writs for the 2022 National General Election will be on the 24th of April, 2022.
