LOOKING ahead to the Papal visit, Archbishop of Port Moresby, His Eminence Cardinal John Ribat, emphasized the significance of Pope Francis’ upcoming visit to Papua New Guinea, stating that it is an opportunity to deepen the faith of the nation’s believers in Christ.
“Many people might be questioning the purpose of Pope Francis’ visit to Papua New Guinea. There have been various opinions and thoughts shared,” Cardinal Ribat noted.
He explained that Pope Francis, as a representative of Christ, plays a vital role, and it is important for everyone to recognize the significance of his presence during this visit.
“The coming of Pope Francis brings us together, as he is not only a leader of state but also a spiritual leader in the Church. His presence in our midst during these challenging times is a blessing, a way to unite us, and a means of bringing peace to our shores.”
The Cardinal also highlighted the Pope’s dedication, noting that his visit at the age of 88, even in a wheelchair, is a remarkable gesture of his commitment to serving the nation.
Cardinal Ribat expressed that this visit is a great privilege for the people of Papua New Guinea.
He further added that the event holds even greater significance as it includes the participation of the PNG Council of Churches.
“We deeply value this event and look forward to it, just as our Saviour unites every one of us,” Cardinal Ribat said.
