THE Divine Word Adventist Student Association (DASA) demonstrated their commitment to education by donating three cartons of books to Erima School.
The school, which encompasses elementary, primary, and junior high levels (grades 9 & 10), is situated on the south coast of Madang town in Madang Province.
The book donation drive is a vital component of DASA’s broader initiative to give back to schools in Madang province. Their goal is twofold: to increase the literacy rate and contribute to the development of human resources within the country. By providing diverse reading materials, DASA aims to empower students with knowledge and enhance their reading skills.
The three cartons of books donated cover a wide range of genres, from fiction to non-fiction. The purpose of these carefully chosen reading materials is to inspire students to delve into diverse topics and broaden their perspectives. As students immerse themselves in these books, they will not only improve their vocabulary but also gain confidence in expressing themselves fluently in English.
Acting deputy principal, Mr. Andrew Roko, warmly received the books from DASA students.
“This is the first time Divine Word University students had contributed books to our school and I am so thankful to the DASA students for personally delivering the books to both the primary and junior high schools,” Roko said.
The book donation drive is a longstanding tradition within DASA. As part of their annual outreach program, they consistently reach out to nearby schools, ensuring that students have access to quality reading materials.
Vice President of DASA, Tobby Kem, thanked the Divine Word Friendship Library for their ongoing collaboration and support. Their partnership has been instrumental in making this initiative a success.
The collaboration between DASA, Divine Word Friendship Library, and Erima School exemplifies the spirit of community and the shared commitment to education in Papua New Guinea.
