EASTERN Highlands Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Micheal Welly says the 68th Goroka show and the 49th Independence anniversary celebrations in the province was peaceful and quiet with no major incidents reported.
Mr. Welly said the Goroka township was quiet during the celebrations. He however said that there was an isolated murder case reported but his office is yet to receive the full reports.
He said the two significant events were celebrated successfully as police personnel were beefed up and provided security for the show and the 49th Independence celebrations as well.
The PPC said the police personnel have prepared well for these events and provided securities without any major incidents reported. The policemen and policewomen have conducted foot patrol and motorist to ensure general public celebrate the two significant events with peace and harmony.
“I commend my policemen and policewomen for the well-done job for maintaining law and order throughout the province. So far so good as police personnel on the show ground-maintained peace without fear or favour.
“Maintaining law and order is our responsibility to ensure people are safe especially in such significant events.
“I also thank and commend the people of Goroka and the greater Eastern Highland Province as well as those people who traveled into the province by air or land transport for celebrating the events successfully,” Mr Welly said.
Mr Welly commend the Goroka show organising committee for preparing the show well and showing the leadership in hosting the show for three days which began on September 13th and ended on September 15 and the independence celebrations continued the next day.
