Police in Central Province have impounded two vehicles at the 15 Mile Police Station and are investigating the cause of an accident involving the Minister for Energy and Kairuku Member of Parliament, Peter Namea Isoaimo, and a PNGDF soldier at Goldie Junction along the Hiritano Highway.
Central Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector Joseph Salle confirmed that the accident occurred at around 8pm yesterday involving the Minister. He said Minister Isoaimo was traveling from home heading to Port Moresby, while the soldier was traveling from Port Moresby along the Laloki section when the incident happened. According to the initial report provided, it was alleged that the soldier was trying to avoid a pothole at the junction and drove inwards when the Energy Minister switched lanes, which caused the accident.
PPC Salle said the soldier who was traveling in a small vehicle was injured and was transported to the hospital by Saint John’s Ambulance to seek medical treatment. He said police units were called in to secure the accident scene and took both accident vehicles to Fifteen Mile Police Station.
Another accident was also reported along Maggi Highway at Tubuseria village yesterday afternoon. We are also receiving reports of traffic accidents every day along our main highway. Our advice to drivers is to drive with care and respect other road users and the passengers they are transporting. We have received more than ten traffic accident reports since January, and the number is increasing every day. “That is not good,” PPC Salle said.
PPC Salle further added that during the weekend, a vehicle that belonged to Kana Construction was also involved in an accident, which police are investigating.
