HIRI ENUMERATORS BEGIN COUNTING IN EDAI TOWN

National Statistical Office Executive Officer to the National Statistician Jimmy Waigi, has confirmed that all allowances and funding to assist in this census exercise have been delivered to the provincial administration, and enumerators should be able to receive their allowances.

“I take this time to commend the Central Province. Despite the challenges we had, your team managed to keep going and proceed with the census,” Mr. Waigi said. He made this statement while addressing leaders and enumerators during the observation of the Hiri Local Level Government (LLG) Census.

The Hiri LLG Census is progressing well, with the Boera team of enumerators now moving into the Edai Town unit to count the number of households. He added that this year will be the first census in which the Edai Town census unit will be participating.

Mr. Waigi remarked that the census is everybody’s business, and information together with data is important for careful planning.

“Despite the setbacks, we are ensuring the census is going well, and we see enumerators and those engaged in the exercise carry out the census to all households,” he said.

Mr. Waigi explained that enumerators have been advised to use both the Paper Assisted Personal Interview (PAPI) and the Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) methods for data collection.
