Ministers pay tribute to late Hon Dumarinu

THE late Hon Simon Dumarinu was brought to the nation’s capital yesterday afternoon and was received by the Bougainville community and their leaders at Jackson’s International Terminal.

NCD Governor Hon. Powes Parkop and Prime Minister Hon. James Marape were also present to receive the late Hon. Dumarinu, accompanied by several other parliamentary leaders.

Leader of Government Business Hon. Peter Tsiamalili and Minister for Defence Dr. Billy Joseph led the procession out of the terminal, followed by the pallbearers, as the Bougainville community assembled to pay their respects to their leader.

According to Hon. Tsiamalili, the late Hon. Dumarinu will remain in the National Capital District until Parliament resumes on September 3rd. His body will then be brought to Parliament for proper protocols, allowing other Parliamentarians to pay their respects to their colleague and leader.

Hon. Tsiamalili thanked the people of Bougainville who were present to receive their leader and encouraged them to work together in fulfilling the funeral responsibilities and other obligations.

The late Dumarinu was a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). During the reception, SDP leader Hon Parkop expressed that the passing of the late Hon Dumarinu is a significant loss to the people of Central Bougainville and the country as a whole.

“On behalf of the party, we acknowledge everyone who took the time to be here, as well as our Prime Minister, to receive this great leader,” Governor Parkop stated.

“For protocol, we understand it is the responsibility of the National Parliament, and we appreciate the Deputy Clerk for taking the lead in carrying out government responsibilities.”

He added that as soon as the regional member of Bougainville Hon. Tsiamalili organizes the national haus krai, a formal announcement will be made to the public.
