OK Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) donated K1million towards relief efforts in Mulitaka, Enga Province, following the devastating landslide on 24th May.
The donation was marked with a dummy cheque presentation by the OTML Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Kedi Ilimbit to the Enga Provincial Administrator Sandy Tsaka on Thursday 29th August in Wabag.
This contribution is aimed at supporting ongoing humanitarian needs and long-term recovery efforts in the aftermath of the landslide that claimed several lives and destroyed hundreds of homes and other infrastructure.
The K1 million donation will be directed towards providing support in the reconstruction and rebuilding of affected communities’ livelihood.
Mr Ilimbit said, “We will be working closely with the Enga Provincial Disaster Committee to ensure that these funds are deployed effectively and reaches those who have been affected in the Mulitaka landslide.
“Our thoughts are with all those impacted, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who were affected by the landslip. We are committed to supporting the recovery and rebuilding efforts in Mulitaka. We stand in solidarity with the affected people and communities during this difficult time and hope that our contribution will make a meaningful difference in their lives.”
The OTML delegation to Enga included leaders of the Engan Community in Ok Tedi who also took the opportunity on the day to present their fundraised monies totalling K180,000 to the Mulitaka Communities. OTML also supported the Enga leaders fundraising drive.
Administrator Tsaka thanked Ok Tedi, the Engan Community in Tabubil and all those who supported the fundraising drive to assist the impacted communities.
This year OTML has already committed K22.25 million towards natural disaster relief, and restoration, and relocation efforts within Western Province and PNG.
April:
OTML donated K500,000 each to East Sepik and Chimbu Provinces for flood and earthquake relief efforts.
May:
OTML provided K250,000 worth of basic food supplies to five flood-affected villages in the Lower Middle Fly region of Western Province due to heavy rainfall.
June:
OTML committed K20 million for relief, restoration, and relocation efforts following severe floods across several villages along the Fly River in the Districts of Middle Fly, South Fly, and Fly Delta.
“As a 100% PNG-owned Mining Company we want to help and support our local communities and the rest of PNG affected by natural disasters,” said Mr. Ilimbit.
