Paita slams Marape’s response to lawlessness

FINSCHHAFEN MP and Alternative Prime Minister Nominee, Hon. Rainbo Paita, has expressed deep disappointment and frustration with Prime Minister James Marape’s continued condemnation of violent acts without demonstrating effective leadership to address the escalating lawlessness in the country.

Paita’s remarks come in response to PM Marape’s recent statement condemning the killing of a Chinese national in Wau, Morobe Province.

“While I extend my deepest sympathies over the tragic incident in Wau, I must remind the Prime Minister that his condemnation should apply to all acts of violence and terror spreading across the country, accompanied by decisive action,” Paita said.

“The killing of any human being, whether foreign or national, should not be tolerated in any form. Yet, it appears the PM selectively addresses certain atrocities while ignoring others.
“Just two weeks ago, a horrific massacre carried out by thugs armed with bush knives and homemade weapons claimed the lives of at least 20 people in Angoram, East Sepik. There was no condemnation, no outrage, and no commitment from the PM to address this tragedy.

“Daily reports of violence and brutal killings are emerging from all parts of the country, with numerous incidents occurring recently in Enga and Hela provinces.

“To make matters worse, these heinous acts are being recorded and circulated on social media for all Papua New Guineans to witness, demonstrating a blatant disregard for law and order.”

Paita urged the Prime Minister to take serious action in addressing the law-and-order crisis, stop treating domestic massacres, slaughters, and torture as if they are normal, and restore confidence in the country for both citizens and foreign nationals.
