THE Governor of the National Capital District and principal sponsor of the NCD Youth Summit and Expo, Hon Powes Parkop, has urged government agencies, organizations, and participants at the NCD Youth Summit at APEC House to move away from monologues and start promoting dialogue in all aspects of their work.
Governor Parkop made these remarks during the third day of the NCD Youth Summit and Expo on Monday. Over 200 youths from across NCD attended the inaugural summit, joined by representatives from UN agencies, UNICEF, and other foreign organizations. Governor Parkop expressed his gratitude for their support and participation in the five-day event.
“I want to thank all UN agencies, the National Development Authority, NCD staff, and the organizing committees for bringing this initiative to life,” Parkop said.
He noted the importance of holding similar summits at the district, provincial, and national levels to benefit youth throughout the country.
Parkop called on his fellow governors across Papua New Guinea to prepare young people to embrace change in economic development, digital marketing, and artificial intelligence. He also challenged them to create more opportunities for the youth.
“These young men and women are the future of our nation. They are the next leaders who will guide and lead this country. We must prepare them to face the modern technologies of the future,” Governor Parkop said.
The summit included workshops and panel sessions with different agencies. Three key topics that highlighted Day three of the summit were: Unblocking the future for youths: ensuring quality education for all – This session engaged youth in discussions about promoting quality education.
It aimed to inspire participants with educational initiatives, showcase innovative approaches and success stories, and foster collaboration with educators and policymakers while addressing barriers to educational access; empowering youths for quality learning opportunities – this workshop focused on exploring challenges and solutions related to providing quality education.
It empowered participants with advocacy skills and actionable strategies to promote an inclusive and accessible education system; Youth and human capital – the summit concluded with a message on empowering youth with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to advocate for and contribute to inclusive and equitable opportunities for all.
