A major breakthrough in addressing persistent power outage in the Southern Highlands Province has been achieved with the arrival of two high-capacity generator sets in Mendi. The new equipment marked a crucial step toward restoring stable electricity supply to the province.

The project, led by Southern Highlands Governor William Titpe Powi and Provincial Administrator David Kelma, is part of a broader initiative to improve infrastructure and service delivery across the province. The generator was procured through Olympus Construction Ltd and are now ready for installation.

Once operational, the generator will provide reliable power to key areas including Mt Wiri (Karinz LLG), Mongol (Upper Mendi), and Megi Hills (Lower Mendi). The improved power supply is expected to support schools, health centers, businesses, and households, lifting the quality of life for thousands of residents.

“This is about improving the quality of life for our people and enabling progress through reliable infrastructure,” said Governor Powi. “It reflects our commitment to rural electrification and long-term development.”

The partnership between the provincial government and Olympus Construction Ltd has been praised as a model for strategic public-private collaboration.

With installation imminent, the Southern Highlands looks forward to a future free from blackouts—where consistent power support growth, opportunity, and improved public services.
