Pori District, Hela Province – [Thursday 24th April 2025] – In a heartwarming display of connection with his people, Prime Minister the Hon. James Marape, MP, marked his 54th birthday today by spending meaningful time with the people of Tari-Pori in Pori District, Hela Province.

Taking a break from his hectic schedule, PM Marape chose to celebrate this special occasion in the scenic outskirts of Pori, where he emphasized the importance of being present among his constituents.

“It is only fitting that I take time out to be with my people on my birthday,” he remarked, highlighting his commitment to community engagement.

During his official visit to Pori, the Prime Minister commissioned 10 newly constructed staff houses for Pori Secondary School, a project funded by the Marape-Rosso National Government at a total cost of K2 million.

This initiative aims to enhance the living conditions of teachers and support the education sector in the district.

“As we continue to build and strengthen our educational infrastructure, I urge all teachers of Pori Secondary School to take ownership of these houses and maintain them diligently. The quality of our education system is as strong as the commitment of those who teach our children,” PM Marape stated during the commissioning ceremony.

Pori Secondary School currently serves 272 students, including 92 female pupils, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to promote education and gender equality in the region.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Kalia Holdings, the contractor responsible for delivering these high-standard houses within budget.

He praised their exemplary work, urging other contractors to follow suit and prioritize quality while remaining within financial constraints.

PM Marape’s visit to Pori not only strengthen ties with the Tari-Pori community but also reaffirmed his government’s dedication to improving educational facilities and enhancing the quality of life for citizens across Papua New Guinea.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by his wife Madam Rachael Marape; Coffee Minister and Koroba MP, Hon. William Bando; and the Hela Governor Hon. Philip Undialu.
