REMOTE Boromil Technical Secondary (BTSS) School in Gumine, Simbu will pass out 51 students in its inaugural graduation at the end of the week.
According to events coordinator Anton Bomai Bre, BTSS is among three secondary schools located in the district of close to 50,000 people that caters for secondary education.
Mr Bre said the first graduation was to be held in 2021 but due to COVID-19 the event was cancelled.
“This year BTSS is hosting its first graduation proper for the school that begun humbly with bush material classrooms in 2007 as high school, and attained secondary status in 2020,” Bre said.
He said BTSS is a level 9 school with enrolment coming from the three local level government areas in Gumine.
He said BTSS was built by Simbu Governor Noah Kool as a local from the area and served as board chairman in 2015, where he was instrumental in securing almost K1 million from the Department of National Planning where the money was used in transforming the school’s infrastructure.
Mr Bre said there are a lot more work to be done to fix up the infrastructure of classrooms to incorporate technical courses, staff and students’ housing, and other amenities.
He said BTSS is expected to receive the elites of Boromil, including Noah Kool to the graduation.
BTSS was grateful that despite the shortcomings encountered with COVID-19 and the national election, the school has pulled through to sit the final students for their examinations and is hosting the graduation, Bre added.
