EVERY provincial education boards throughout the country and other responsible stakeholders must make sure that teachers are in their respective schools on time to start the 2021 academic year.

The Papua New Guinea Teachers Association (PNGTA) made this call recently urging all Provincial Education Boards (PEBs) to swiftly repatriate teachers back to their respective schools to prepare themselves for classes.

PNGTA National President Aita Sanangkepe said someone has to be blamed if the teachers are still fronting up at the provincial headquarters querying on postings and transport fares.

“Teachers by now should know where to teach this year as they should have been informed by the respective education agencies by the end of last year (2020),” Mr Sanangkepe said.

“It is days away for classes to begin for the 2021 academic year and someone has to be blamed if teachers are not in their respective schools on time and classes start late!”

PNGTA General Secretary David Numbaming added that teachers in the country are the agents of change as they teach students to be professionals and leaders of this country and positively contribute towards nation building.

“Therefore the PEBs, the National Education Department and other agencies dealing with teachers in the country must make sure that teachers are in their respective schools on time without any delays and hiccups,” Mr Numbaming stressed.

The PNG Teachers Association is calling on all Provincial Education Boards (PEB) in all provinces to look into the issue with urgency and treat teachers with dignity and respect.

THE PNGTA national executives also renewed their call on the 77, 000 plus teachers in the country to become financial members of PNGTA to strengthen their fight on improvements of their welfare and other benefits.
