POGERA MINE SET TO OPEN ON SEPTEMBER 16th, 2023

The 30 years old PNG’s economic backbone the Pogera Mine is set to open its doors on September 16th, 2023.

The Hon. James Marape, MP, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, led a delegation of Government Ministers on a visit to the mine site in Enga Province on today-Thursday, 20th September, 2023.

Accompanying Prime Minister Marape were Hon. Sir Ano Pala, MP, Minister for Mining, Hon. Solan Mirisim, MP, Minister for Works and Highways, and Grand Chief Sir Peter Ipatas, MP, Governor of Enga Province.

The visit was aimed at addressing tribal conflicts that have been affecting the surrounding communities.

The Pogera Mine, located in Enga Province, has been a cornerstone of country’s economy for the past three decades.The opening of this multi-billion kina Porgera Gold Mine marks a significant milestone in the nation’s economic history.

With its reopening, the mine is expected to boost the country’s economy and create numerous employment opportunities.

During their visit, Prime Minister Marape and his delegation had the honor of inspecting a guard of honor by the Papua New Guinea Defense Force (PNGDF) contingent, who are providing security at the Pogera mine site.

The presence of the PNGDF underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for the mine’s operations.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by traditional singsing groups from Hela and Enga provinces, adding a vibrant cultural touch to the visit.

Such displays of local traditions and customs help forge a deeper connection between the mine and the surrounding communities.

As PNG prepares to celebrate its Independence Day on September 16th, the opening of the Pogera Mine serves as a symbol of progress and economic prosperity.

It reflects the commitment of the government and the land owners to work together for the benefit of the nation.With the reopening of the Pogera Mine, PNG stands poised to harness the untapped potential of its mineral resources for brighter future.
