POLICE BOSSES IN NCD/CENTRAL COMMAND CHALLENGED TO GO BACK TO THE BASICS

POLICE officers working in the National Capital District and Central Provincial Commands were today challenged to return to their respective stations, revisit their duty statements, and work accordingly. This was the message from both the incoming and outgoing NCD/Central commanders.

The outgoing NCD/Central commander Assistant Commissioner of Police Peter Guinness challenged the senior police officers who have the responsibility as police station commanders, officers in charge of respective sections and other senior officers that many negative things had been said about police because of the way police conduct their business. He said while in the office he had written to the police management to introduce the idea of creating a mega police station in the city so that each leader in NCD and Central provinces can take charge of it that include political leaders.

He said that is the only way the police can manage their manpower and resources and can also seek assistance from the political leaders. He said according to statistics, the population in both NCD and Central had increased and the population ratio is one police officer to more than one thousand people. He said he hoped and believed that what he provided to the management and the political leaders would come to fruition so the command could change.

ACP Guinness also thanked the police officer from the command who had been working to make sure the city was safe for the general public. He said the officers had been doing their best every day. He welcomed the new commander and requested all police officers down the ranks and files to work together with him and the other stakeholders who would be stepping in to help the police. ACP Guinness also acknowledges the office of the NCD Governor Powes Parkop who had pledged his support towards police in NCD.

The incoming commander Chief Superintendent Benjamin Turi while addressing the senior officers from the command told the commanders and the supervisors that they need to step up and get back to the basic policing duties. He said many officers had been dismissed or left the force because they were not taken care of well and stepped out of line. While speaking on that he said police officers must also understand their duty statements and work ethically.

Commander Turi also thanked ACP Guinness who had been in the command to restore order after the January 10 incident. He said the police had been blamed for that so police officers must now work together to bring back the trust from the public and the business community.

He said in the past police officers had been compromising and had not been working ethically which is why there are many law and order problems in the city.

He said with him in the office police officers who are supposed to work must be working. He said there are many differences among police officers which is not good. He said the past is gone and the command will start fresh to bring policing service to everyone.
