A 31 DAYS operation has been launched in West New Britain province to address the current unrest that has disrupted commercial activities and schools recently.
Assistant Commissioner Police New Guinea Islands Paul Kamuai led a 17 men team from East New Britain to Kimbe, West New Britain (WNB) to assist local police in the current unrest.
ACP Kamuai and Islands Mobile Squad Commander Senior Inspector Cleopas Guiame travelled to Kimbe this week to assist local police in the ground contain the month long fighting at Gigo.
The fighting has affected normal daily operations, commercial activities and schools at Gigo and surrounding areas. A number of youths have been critically injured due to sustaining wounds from the fighting.
Provincial authorities in WNB have requested for police back up due to shortage of police manpower in Kimbe.
The Chinese Business Community has stepped in to donate K5,000 in cash to Police to assist them in their 31 day operation to contain the fighting at Gigo.
The cash was given by Jacky Chan to ACP Kamuai who then handed it over to Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Januarius Vosivai today in Kimbe.
Mr Kamuai thanked the Chinese community for the assistance given.
Provincial Administrator Williamson Hosea has also commended the Chinese Business Community for their continued assistance to stakeholders in the province.
