Police presence assuring safety at Boroko

By FRANCIS RODNEY PULU

THE Police presence at Boroko in the National Capital (NCD) is ensuring that there is safety and assurance to the general public who are moving around this area during business hours.

Sunday Bulletin Newspaper had the opportunity to interview one of the units from National Capital District Commission Police Reserve Unit based in front of the TST Group of Companies at Boroko on what they are doing so far.

On behalf of the unit, one of the Reservists, Thomas Kamiago said so far with their presence they are satisfied that they are really doing the work of the unit that they represent.

He said the place is now clear unlike before.

“We have come to set up tent here at TST front.

“Previously, we have noticed that this place became like a market place and buses are parking at this place unlawfully.

“And vending activity is also taking place so, we came and removed the bus stop to Saint Mary’s and told the vendors to go and do their marketing at Boroko Market.

“Also, the bus nine that stops on the other side and causes traffic were told them not to stop there. So, this place is now clear,” he said.

Kamiago added that this is their third week and their job starts from six o’clock in the morning and finishes at seven o’clock in the evening.

He said with their presence, the public are walking around freely and they (Public) acknowledged their presence that they are happy of what the unit is doing.

“The public came and said thank you that they are happy for the work we are doing like coming and seating down and monitoring the place and showing police presence.”

Kamiago further said that the overall aim is to ensure public safety when walking around doing their normal daily businesses.

“The youths on the streets must not disturb them like pick pocketing and so forth.

“We want to make sure that the public must walk around freely and safely to get on the bus to their respective destinations,” he said.

The initiative has seen four units being set in Boroko to areas.

Meanwhile, Kamiago said the whole initiative is to follow the idea of NCD Governor Powes Parkop who said that before the city is taken back Boroko must be taken first.

“We will continue to do our work.

“We will try our best to address this issue with our big aim to ensure Port Moresby is a safer place for everyone to live in.

“We would like to thank other organizations to come and partner with us. Together we can stand to make it happen to make Port Moresby a safer place to live,” he said.
