Pangu Party”s Connect PNG Program to unlock rural areas is the factor that lured Pomio MP Elias Kapavore to join the Marape Rosso Government.
Kapavore said that when joining Pangu Party on Monday and his defection from People’s National Congress (PNC)s now brings Pangu Party‘s number to 52 MPs.
“I support Pangu Party’s Connect PNG program and Pomio District is 70 percent land mass of East New Britain and is quite a big land mass. It’s not that Government is not supporting us and we are moving to the Government. I want to thank the Marape -Rosso Government for supporting the District well .We has connected several bridges along The south coast of New Britain High way and, there are some more bridges under taken by the Department of Works and Highway . And as I speak one of the bridges is now been loaded on to a barge to be shipped to Pomio from Lae.”
Kapavore said “the decision by me is generally taking heed of my people’s call to support the Government is because we believe that there must be stability .I thank PNC for supporting me for the last eight years and I resigned from them. My people wanted me to join Pangu party. They wanted me to move since the formation of the Government in August 2022 but I didn’t till 12 months later.”
Kapavore said “In the recent Special Economic Zone summit, I noticed that Pomio District was in the plan especially the Agro Industry projects and so there’s a need for me to join the Government and we can support this arrangements especially to unlock rural areas.”
Prime Minister James Marape in welcoming Kapavore at Manasupe Building said “Our policy to unlock rural people and we have been working with him(Kapavore ) for the last two years .we have not kept Opposition MPs off . they have been given due support so he(Kapavore ) has made a conscious choice .and if you have noted the way he(Kapavore ) was voting in Parliament was formed in August 2022 , he(Kapavore ) has consistently voted with Government in all our Bills.”
Marape said “Pomio has been in the back page for a long time with Pangu Party’s vision of unlocking rural areas in PNG, Pomio has been in our radars .just to confirm that in the last two years we have been attempting to link Palmalmal through the south coast highway and link East and West New Britain .to the people of Pomio, your MP didn’t join us for perks and privilege but the need to see Pomio to be unlock and it has been his focus and we will support him.”
