DAUGHTER TO CARRY ON LATE DAD’S LEGACY

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK

DAUGHTER of former Kairuku-Hiri MP late Joseph Aoae is contesting in the 2022 national election for the new Kairuku open seat.

Madonna Aoae who is the eldest daughter of late Aoae said that she hoped to continue what her late father had done.

“I’d like to thank the New Generation Party for giving me the opportunity to contest the new Kairuku seat in the 2022 election.

“I’m the first female candidate for the Kairuku seat, after the original Kairuku-Hiri electorate was split.

“And it’s the first of its kind for females in the Kairuku areas to contest.

“I thank the New Generation Party for recognizing me and for promoting gender equality.

“Because the Party’s motto says it all “today’s children for tomorrow’s future.

“And as a mother of three, I think I’m taking this bold stand.

“My late father was the first MP in the country to win in a by election in 1975 and he stayed three terms.

“In 1992 he was ousted by Sir Moi Avei and he (late Aoae) passed on in 2014.

“I have seen the political side of it and it’s quite exhausting as it was then a large electorate.

“Now it’s split and is become smaller.

“So, I’ve seen the past when my father was a politician for 15 years; it was quite hectic.

“But at that time his District Service Improvement Program funds was only K500, 000 to look after the whole electorate.

“And he did manage Kairuku-Hiri.

“Now you have K10million and there is little development in Kairuku.

Meanwhile the non-parliamentary leader of New Generation Party Professor Sam Kari said that they have filled 54 candidates in all Provinces.

“We are confident to win some seats and be a coalition partner to form the new government,” he said.
