H.E. Grand Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae GCL, GCMG, KStJ, Governor General of Papua New Guinea, has issued writs for by-election for four electorates in the country.
These are:
●Aitape-Lumi Open Electorate in West Sepik Province
●Porgera-Paela Open Electorate in Enga Province
●Usino-Bundi Open Electorate in Madang Province
●Kabwum Open Electorate in Morobe Province.
Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai presented the Writs to the Governor General at Government House this morning.
Mr. Sinai informed the Governor General that the Porgera-Paela Electorate and Usino-Bundi Electorate were left vacant following the passing of Late Hon. Maso Karipe in 2003 and Late Hon. Jimmy Uguro in 2024, while the Aitape-Lumi and Kabwum Open Electorates are Court ordered by-elections.
The by-elections will be conducted concurrently as follows:
●Issue of Writs (Nomination Open)-Thursday 24th April, 2025
●Nominations Close- Thursday 01st May, 2025
●Polling Commences- Saturday 12th July, 2025
●Polling Concludes – Friday 01st August, 2025
●Return of Writs on or before- Friday 22nd August, 2025
