LEFT OUT CITY ELIGIBLE VOTERS TO REGISTER AT NCD ELECTORAL OFFICE

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK

Voters Eligible Voters in Port Moresby must   enquire at the National Capital District Electoral Office to register in the Common Roll before the end of this month, NCD Election Manager Kila Ralai says.

“Unfortunately, time is not on our side for our Common Roll updating team to return back to the areas to collect names. And so, I’m urging those voters who have missed out during the Roll updating exercise conducted throughout NCD last month to personally come to my office at Boroko and enroll.

“Those who have missed out can come in person and register. If they come to us it will be good as time is up and we can’t go out. Also because we have limited forms, and so it’s good for people to come in person and register. But before they come, they must check their names on the look up apps on Facebook. And if their names are not on look up apps, then they can come here and enquire before registering,” he said

Ralai said that when giving updates on the progress of the Roll updating exercise.

“We have started our roll updating exercise in March by going out throughout the suburbs. Unfortunately we ran out   of enrolments forms to capture people’s names. But we also collected the names of people requesting for enrollment forms. And we are now awaiting the Management to consider for new enrollment forms However for the names of the voters that have filled out the enrolment forms, we are now updating the Rolls since last week. And now clerks are working on the quality check roll to check if they are genuine voters. And so, we are urging people who have already registered to continue checking their names on the look up apps,” he said.

Ralai also confirmed that they were still behind schedule in updating the roll.

“Unfortunately, time has got up with us. Whether we may or may not able to complete the process. Because when you look at the timing, timing is against us. But we will still continue as fast as we can and with accuracy to update the Common Roll. We are hoping to print out the preliminary roll by 28/ 04/22 which will be used for nomination,” he said.
