PANGU numbers swell with new inclusion of two MPs

By LORRAINE WOHI

TWO Members of Parliament (MPs) have now formally joined the leading PANGU Pati led coalition government   bringing the total to 38 PANGU Pati MPs.

Member for Bogia, Robert Naguri and the South Bougainville MP and Communication Minister, Timothy Masiu were welcomed by Party leader and Prime Minister, James Marape and other members of PANGU in a media conference in Parliament today.

The duo resigned from their former party, the National Alliance (NA) which they were a member of in the 2017 National Election.

Minister Masiu said his move is on the voluntary basis and was nothing of political influence.

He described the political landscape provided by the Prime Minister as developing and the type of leadership that is welcomed and admired.

“I moved because I admired the leadership the Prime Minister is displaying now in progressing the country forward, despite challenges faced,” Masiu said.

He also commands the Prime Minister on how he has handled the Bougainville issue.

“There are a lot of things that the Prime Minister has done that makes the issue of Bougainville achievable.

“The PM has accepted and has done what the leaders and people of Bougainville wants.

“My move to Pangu is to become an active player to help move the Bougainville issues forward,” Masiu said.

Member for Bogia, Robert Naguri said his move is to help put forward the long outstanding Manam resettlement issue.

“National Alliance (NA) has let me and my people of Manam Island down.

“I am looking up to PANGU to have a plan in place for the Manam resettlement issue,” Naguri said.

Naguri also aims to be with the ruling Party to go into the National General Elections in 2022.

Both MPS thanked the National Alliance Party (NA) for accepting their resignation and for releasing them to join the PANGU Pati.

Meanwhile, PANGU Pati’s first convention will be held this weekend.
