NCD Governor and Board Chairman Powes Parkop on Friday joined Prime Minister James Marape and others in congratulating member-elect for Moresby North-West, Lohia Boe Samuel.

Governor Parkop also congratulated everyone else who contested the by-election.

He reminded everyone that there is no failure in life but only lessons are learnt.

In any race, he said, there is always one winner and for the by-election is no different.

Governor Parkop said for more than 20 years elected members of Moresby North-West (MNW) have been working in isolation to the detriment of the people.

Raising up to the challenge, he said he intervened with projects and socio-economic projects in the electorate and improved the livelihood of the people.

“A lot needs to be done in North-West including lifting the villages, ending settlements, improving and extending health and education facilities, improving security and providing more opportunities for young people which needs combine efforts and attention.”

He said Samuel’s overwhelming victory should be a beginning of a new era for the better.

His win comes at the time when Governor Parkop and Motu-Koitabu Assembly are working in collaboration to improve the lives of the indigenous people.

He said under his Motu-Koita Modernization initiative, major developments have been delivered, citing clean water projects, Boe Vagi Road and Hanuabada Market project. We need to extend these initiatives to the other villagers including the new health Centre at Metoria, Hanuabada.

He said he hoped to continue the working relationship.

“Our NCD Board welcomes him on board. We are looking forward to working with him in the next eight months before the next elections,” he said.

Also governor of Central Province Robert Agarobe on behalf of his people congratulated the member elect.

“With due respect to all our other MNW candidates, you do deserve your win not only because you worked extremely hard for it, however, you are also by default a landlord that needs to represent the interest of our Motu-Koita people at the national level.

“The Motu-Koita people’s position has always been downplayed by sitting on the NCD board as a minority player while not having any real representation in our National Parliament as an equity shareholder of Port Moresby.

“With your mandate now as the chosen leader and thanks to your MNW constituents, a better model of balanced management in terms of land, culture, business and livelihood in a metropolis society can be created as a model for the other NCD electorates to learn from,” Agarobe said.
