Sir Arnold Amet Appointed as Ambassador-designate to USA

HIS Excellency Sir Arnold Amet was commissioned today as the Ambassador-designate to the United States of America.

Minister for  Foreign Affairs Hon Justin Tkatchenko describes the occasion special.

“Today marks a momentus occasion as the formal signing ceremony officially inaugurates the diplomatic journey of Senior Statesman, former Chief Justice, former Governor for Madang and Member of Parliament Chief Sir Arnold Amet.”

“For him to be finally appointed as the Ambassador of United States of America, is not a mistake. Your government, under Marape-Rosso Government, and through the Department of Foreign Affairs, had no hesitation at all of his appointment and we now look forward for him to finally leave our shores to take up his new post”

“Today sets a good start for our relationship with the United States of America. The position of Ambassador has been vacant for quite a long time.”

“Going forward, we have a lot of things that we need to clarify, a lot of areas we need to secure and confirm. So Papua New Guinea knows where it stands with the United States now and into the future, and we look forward to the new ambassador and his team with the United Nations

“Ambassador working with us here, with the department and with our government going forward to ensure we have upper hand and the best of best going forward with our new relationship with the United States.”

“Our relationship with the US has been quite an interesting one. As the US now takes an independent role to PNG and has direct line of contact with PNG not like before. We have a lot of work to do under the new Trump Administration for the good of both our countries and the region as a whole,” said Minister Tkatchenko.

His Excellency Sir Arnold Amet and Ambassador-designate to the United States of America thanked the Minister and the Marape-Rosso Government for having the trust in him to take up the role.

Sir Arnold who was appointed in 2019 was relieved to finally be commissioned to take up the post with concurrent accreditation to Canada and Mexico.

He graduated at the University of Papua New Guinea in 1975 and had since held important posts in the National Judiciary Services and the National Parliament.

“I journeyed with our independence so this year is special for me.

“I thank the government for the confidence in this appointment and for their perseverance in me.”

“It’s a great honour being bestowed upon me and my wife especially at the dawn of golden jubilee of the nation’s anniversary.

“We all have a lot of work to do promoting our nation’s achievements at our postings.”
