THE UBS commission of Inquiry Report is the meaning of corruption and Papua New Guinea children must study it to know what corruption is, Kandep MP Don Polye says.
“Judges, lawyers and young people of PNG, students, learned people, professional, private sectors and public servants, if you want to know what corruption is, you just have to study this report.
“You will find corruption in multi-fashions. And if you know, foreigners don’t care about us.”
Polye said that during the tabling of the UBS commission of Inquiry Report in Parliament on Wednesday last week.
He was the Treasurer in the O’Neill-Dion Government and was sacked on March 10, 2014 by then Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for not signing the UBS loan.
After sacking Polye, O’Neill signed the loan as the acting Treasurer.
“Lies, deceits and corruption are the enemy we are facing.
“It is not the foreigners who come in to this country.
“It is not those business that we bring in.
“It is ourselves.
“We have been enemy to ourselves by indulging in corruption, abuse, misappropriation lies and deception.
“This is what we must get rid of within ourselves,” Polye explained.
He urged Papua New Guineans to study the report to understand the magnitude of it in terms of corruption.
“Whether this report has implicated any or not is not an issue.
“But the knowledge and experience we get out of this report is open that will enlighten you, if you want to define what is corruption is.
“Over times I hear in court rooms the judge ask lawyers what is corruption and lawyers find it hard to explain.
“But on this floor of parliament, I would like to define corruption just by read this commission of inquiry report.
“If you want to know what corruption is and judges, lawyers and young people of PNG, if you want to lean about corruption, you just have to study this report.
“You will find corruption in multi-fashions,” he said.
Polye also thank Prime Minister James Marape for having an inquiry into this saga.
“He was the Finance Minister in the O’Neill –Dion Government.
“But he didn’t hold back because in human nature, you can’t uncover a deal that you are part of.
“But I salute the courage sincerity and honesty of the PM because if you look at it, it prove that he was the faithful Minister of cabinet that thought that former PM O’Neill was doing something good for the country but he was not.
“But after going through the heap of documents, he said that now that he is the PM he has a morale obligation to tell the people of PNG the truth. I think that was what the PM has done and we comment him for that,” Polye said.
