The PNG Electoral Commission will issue Writs for the By Election for Moresby North West today.
Governor General Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae is expected to receive the writs from the Acting Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai at 10am at the Government House.
It is understood that candidates contesting the seat will be gathering as early as 8-9am today at the Boroko Court House to pay their nomination fees.
Amongst those candidates, there are notable contenders that have shown interest to contest the by-elections. Runner up of the 2017 national elections for the Moresby North-West seat, Lohia Boe Samuel under Pangu Pati has put his hands up again to contest in this by-election.
Another notable contender for the seat is former Secretary for Community Development, Youth & Religion Anna Kavana Bais.
Mrs Bais resigned from her post which she held for the last 15 years and would the only female candidate to stand in the by-election.
This paper is not aware if former MP Michael Malabag will contest the by-election, however there are rumors, he might turn up at the 11th hour to pay his nomination fees tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Sunday Bulletin newspaper’s General Manager, Lims Lapan Mirupasi will be contesting as well.
The by-election will cost the national government K3 million to conduct.
