Nine youths from the Moresby North West Electorate departed Port Moresby today for Australia on a four-year contract under the Labour Mobility Program.
Eight of these youths left as meat workers where as one of them left as a certified mechanic to work in his field of profession in Australia.
This is an initiative that is currently being supported by the Port Moresby North West District Development Authority, in collaboration with the Labour Mobility Unit which emphasizes on providing opportunity to unfortunate youths in Port Moresby.
Port Moresby North West MP Hon. Lohia Boe Samuel stated during a press conference
yesterday that the 9 youths were shortlisted from 350 applicants after passing four different tests conducted by LMU to be eligible for this program.
He also clarified that the first person for this program left in 2024 for fruit pricking, which is
for a maximum duration of nine months. He further added that Moresby North West DDA has assisted them for their medical fees after completing all procedures and requirements to become eligible for this program.

“The Moresby North West paid all their medical fees, which is K1,300 for each candidate as
part of our community incentive supports to these eligible candidates,” said Samuel.
The local MP extended his appreciation to the Governor for National Capital District Hon
Powes Parkop and the Marape-Rosso Government for being supportive on this initiative to
reduce poverty and provide employment opportunity for young people.
MP Samuel further affirmed that the target is to send 8,000 – 10,000 young people every
year but the selection is done by the Labour Mobility Unit, basing on eligibility requirements
according to their own criteria.
However, seven candidates departed Port Moresby today and the remaining two
candidates will be leaving next week.
The local MP concluded by requesting the Labour Mobility Unit to consider more applicants from his district, as his DDA team will be fully committed to assist on all medical fees for final shortlisted candidates.
