PEOPLE residing at Boera village are fortunate to receive support from the Port Moresby Nature Park delivering 5000 trees as part of the Climate Change Environment Diplomacy project (CCEPP) in collaboration with the Blue team of Hilton Hotel.
Staff and team from Port Moresby Nature Park and the Blue team Hilton, made a visit to the Boera community yesterday to formally make the announcement of the special project to the community of Boera village.
Commercial Operations Manager for Port Moresby Nature Park Ms. Claire Asi explained: “It’s a small branch project that the German Embassy of Canberra encouraged the Port Moresby Nature Park to apply for, only because we have only three main focus areas of the park.”
The Port Moresby Nature Park focus areas include, recreation, conservation and education, aiming on planting plants and trees for sustainable development and behavioural change as well as looking after the natural flora and fauna of PNG.
“Recreation is where the leading attraction in PNG, visitors come to the Park every year,” Ms. Asi highlighted.
The team along with the community successfully kicked off the planting of trees of 12 different species yesterday, with a thousand expected to be planted this week and will continue till, the 5000 is all completed.
With the common experience of having sea level rise, the community shown much gratitude towards the project and were really looking forward to see it happen.
Chairlady of Boera Hisiubada Women’s ministry, Gomara Dobi expressed their environment has changed from time to time and the sea starting moving up to the village.
“It’s is a privilege for us Boera people to have tree to be planted and provide a better living environment,” Ms. Dobi said.
She explained, they will be planting trees mainly at the open areas where there is strong wind coming through to protect their land and community.
She thanked the Port Moresby for the much needed donation, and they will be utilising to conserve their beach areas.
