Prime Minister James Marape has conveyed Papua New Guinea’s deepest condolences to the Government and people of Australia following a tragic terrorist attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney.

Speaking on behalf of the Government and people of Papua New Guinea, Prime Minister Marape said the senseless act of violence had claimed innocent lives and caused immense pain to families, friends, and the wider Australian community.

He reaffirmed Papua New Guinea’s solidarity with Australia during this difficult time, noting the close and enduring relationship between the two nations. Australia, he said, is not only Papua New Guinea’s closest neighbour but a trusted friend and partner, bound by strong historical, social, and people-to-people ties.

“The loss felt in Sydney is also felt in Papua New Guinea,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Marape strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and reiterated Papua New Guinea’s commitment to peace, security, and the protection of innocent lives. He extended his thoughts and prayers to the victims, those injured, the emergency responders, and all those affected by the tragic event.

He also expressed hope that the families of those who lost their lives would find strength and comfort in the days ahead and wished the injured a full and swift recovery.

Papua New Guinea, he said, stands united with Australia in grief and mourning during this time of sorrow.
